Peace Center. Ethical management of conflicts

Baketik
How it is financed

Baketik is a centre set up by the Franciscans, and in May 2006 they created the ‘Fundación Arantzazu Baketik’ to promote it. The founders’ contribution was the venue, the fitting out and furnishing work, and an initial sum of 70,000 euros. In its initial phase, Baketik also received 195,000 euros from a number of sponsors. This guaranteed the setting up of the centre and its basic functioning until the end of 2007 with a workforce of four permanent staff and a number of external collaborators.

Baketik’s aims to self-finance its activities and the project to do this is based on three criteria: First: ‘social profitability’, i.e. providing a useful service to society. There is a cause-and-effect relationship between the real social utility of the service provided and the object of self-finance. Second: gradual growth. i.e. growing in such a manner that each step is based on the consolidation of the previous one. Third: diversification of sources of income. Whether Baketik can be autonomous or not will depend on a balanced diversification of its sources of income, which are at least four: (1) invoicing of services and membership fees, (2) contribution by the founders, (3) income from sponsors or collaborations, and (4) help from institutions.
