Peace Center. Ethical management of conflicts

Baketik
How it works
The Peace Centre ‘Baketik’ is part of the objectives and structure of the Arantzazu Baketik Foundation and is the heart of the project of the Foundation, because it includes, represents and acts as a channel for implementing all the objectives of the foundation. The Arantzazu Baketik Foundation has been driven by the Franciscans. Franciscans are present in the Peace Centre through the Board of Trustees, whose members are chosen by the founders. They participate in major decisions through the Board. However, they do not intervene in the management of the projects, nor in decisions taken on a daily basis. The Centre and its governing board are independent in their functions and work on the basis of accepted projects.

The organs in the structure of Baketik are: the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, the Governing Board, the Advisory Committee and the Management of the Centre.

The Board of Trustees. This is the top level of governance of the Foundation. It regulates the general operations of Baketik, supervises compliance with the aims of the foundation and approves the budget, contracting and appointments to the governing organs. It is made up of persons who are appointed by the founding members.

The Governing Board. The Board of Trustees of the Foundation delegates the monitoring of the governance of the Peace Centre to a Governing Board that is plural in its composition. It consists of twelve members, plus the Director and the Manager. The Governing Board monitors the work of the Peace Centre by delegation from the Board of Trustees. The composition of this body sets out to respond to a wide range in terms of gender, age, origin, disciplines, national identities or political sensibilities. It meets at least four times a year. It approves, modifies or rejects work plans and collaborates in their implementation.

The people who make up the Governing Board are:

Mikel Hernansanz
Ramón Múgica
Juan Mari Ollora
Gorka Landaburu
Maria Oianguren
Joxerramon Bengoetxea
Arantxa Urretabizkaia
Marije Goikoetxea
Itziar Hernandez
Paul Ortega
Xabier Etxeberria
Maite Aristegi

The Advisory Board. It is composed of a group of personalities from a wide range of backgrounds and will have a consultative nature. It supports and advises the Director and the Manager in the preparation of annual or multi-annual projects. It meets at least once a year following a request from the Director.

The people who make up the Advisory Board are:

Federico Mayor Zaragoza
Iñaki Gabilondo
Miguel Herrero de Miñón
Victoria Camps
José Antonio Marina
José Saramago
Matteo Zuppi
Anjel Lertxundi
Daniel Innerarity
Massimo Reschiglian

The Management. The Board of Trustees appoints the Director and the Manager of the Centre. These persons will make up the Management. Other people may join the management team. The Management of the Centre works under the supervision of the Governing Board and calls on the Advisory Board. The Director will lead the Baketik project, present the Board of Trustees with annual or bi-annual work projects, the budget, proposal for contracting personnel and the approval of non-forecast expenses. He/she will prepare quarterly or half-year work plans for the centre and present them to the Governing Board.
