Peace Center. Ethical management of conflicts

Projects
VideoClub Project

We have created a cinema service to improve living and living together. A base of one hundred films with teaching guides are available for schools, community organisations, associations, families and organizations to use cinema as a way to reflect on issues related to positive living together, human rights, society, life…

Baketik has approx. 180 films available on it’s film base, which look at issues such as human relationships, conflicts, personal problems, peace, human rights, ethics... It’s objective is to encourage and aid reflection, dialogue and critical thought. This service is directed at individuals, families, schools, working groups, after-schools groups, universities, NGO’s, community groups...

This project, supported by the Youth section of the Department of Culture, is fully focused on an education in values and the promotion of a culture of peace. It uses cinema as a resource to promote a habit of reflection and a spirit of critical thought. It aims to encourage debate, dialogue and constructive discussion.

All of this, is related to three central themes in the life of the human being:

(a) conflict, as inherent to human existence, the constructive management of which allows us to grow as people, to transform as society and to prevent any form of racism, xenophobia or violence;
(b) ethics, as the basis that allows the human being to be human and as a tool that can allow us to transform conflicts from destructive to constructive, through respect, rights and human dignity;
(c) peace, the desire of all human beings which requires reflection and an awareness of the conditions and commitments that each person needs to take on board to make it possible. By this we mean a personalized culture of peace.

The uniqueness of this project can be summarised in two ideas. Firstly, the use of a creative resource to disseminate an education in values and in the culture of peace. As opposed to theoretical language, discussions and educational recommendations, this project uses the language of cinema, which is creative, artistic and even fun. Secondly, this project attempts to carry out peace education through experience and emotions, which sometimes appear in the eye and in the sensitivity of the spectator depicted in a film. We don’t intend to make people learn a lesson but rather encourage them to live through an experience, to feel certain emotions and to reflect on this experience afterwards.

We also offer a course on cinema as an educational resource.
